Environmental Remediation Application & Case Study
TIGG has the stormwater treatment experience and the technologies which can be used to remove the organic contaminants and suspended solids at these locations. TIGG can provide the equipment and activated carbon media which will produce an effluent that meets the client's stormwater treatment requirements.
As part of the US EPA NPDES Phase I Stormwater Treatment Program, 11 categories of industrial activity are required to obtain permit coverage and in many cases, the implementation of controls necessary to minimize the discharge of pollutants is required. The eleven stormwater treatment categories are:
- Facilities with effluent limitations
- Manufacturing
- Mineral, Oil and Gas
- Hazardous Waste, Treatment, or Disposal Facilities
- Landfills
- Recycling Facilities
- Steam Electric Plants
- Transportation Facilities
- Treatment Works
- Construction Activities
- Light Industrial Activity
The Phase II portion of the stormwater treatment program expands Phase I by requiring additional operators of MS4s (Municipal Separate Sewer Systems) in urbanized areas and operators of small construction sites to control polluted stormwater runoff. As a result, some of the sites that are being required to have treatment prior to discharge of stormwater runoff are:
- Airports
- Parking lots at malls, restaurants and convenience stores
- Loading docks
- Gasoline terminals and gas stations
- Highway rest areas
- New residential communities
