Sand - Garnet - Zeolite Media
Various sand, garnet, and zeolite media particle sizes and base materials are selected for differing filtration goals and capacities. Traditional sand and gravel with anthracite and garnet materials have specific capabilities when used in various combinations. Zeolite based product is a newer product compared to more conventional media mixes and offers the advantage of lower density thereby giving higher bed expansions at similar flows with traditional media.
Operating ranges of sand and garnet media include process flows at typically 4-6 gpm/ft2 with back-washing requirements changing with the particular media packs. Typically gravel, sand, anthracite and garnet sizing is available upon request.
Activity provides an indicator of the capability of the particular filtration media combination to produce a particular effluent quality and the capacity of the media pack.
All media packs have the capability to produce suspended solids reduction in applications having particles above 10 microns. Polishing filtration may be required for downstream processing. Back-washing requirements for these products range from 12-15 gpm/ft2 with anthracite to 15-20 gpm/ft2 with sand and gravel.
